Arthur should tone down statements on Pakistan cricket, says Rashid Latif

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif believes newly-appointed head coach Mickey Arthur is jumping the gun by issuing statements regarding issues related to the team.

“Too many statements from the new coach and he is speaking on every issue related to Pakistan cricket,” said Latif. “He is an experienced international coach but he should slow down a bit with his statements and first come and see first-hand the challenges he faces with the Pakistan team.”

Arthur was named Pakistan team head coach after Waqar Younis left the position vacant. The South African immediately said he would not tolerate indiscipline in the team. He also observed that Pakistani players’ absence from Indian Premier League was hurting their T20 prowess.

“There are lot of hopes from Arthur but he should not raise everyone’s expectations. He might not know this but Pakistani cricket fans and authorities can be very unforgiving if he can’t turn things around,” said Latif.

He added: “I have always felt that a foreign coach who keeps a low profile is best suited for Pakistan cricket. In the end the results matter nothing else matters.”

Pakistan Cricket Board sources claim that a message has already been conveyed to Arthur to slow down with his statements.

Cricketer-turned-commentator Ramiz Raja advised Arthur to be ready to face a different culture when visiting Pakistan for his new assignment.

“He is a solid experienced coach who has worked with two top teams and top players but he will really have to be innovative and firm to pick up the performances of the Pakistan team,” said Ramiz.

Rameez added: “The key would be to get rid of selfish players and encourage those who were courageous enough to play for the team not themselves.”

Rameez also felt that Arthur’s job will include finding an inspirational leader who can motivate and lead the team with his performances.

Pakistan Tour of England & Ireland 2016 Full Schedule

Pakistan will be touring England & Ireland for a full fledged series including matches in all formats. Pakistan and England will play four test matches, five one day internationals and one twenty20 match in a two month long tour. Pakistan is also schedule to play two one day internationals against Ireland between the tour. Last time Pakistan toured England was back in August 2010 when England defeated Pakistan 3-1 in four match test series. That tour was over shadowed spot fixing scandal where Muhammad Amir, Muhammad Asif and Salman Butt were banned for 5,7 and 10 years respectively by ICC and Pakistan cricket board.

Schedule & Match Dates: Pakistan will start the tour with two first-class matches against Somerset and Sussex in the first week of July 2016 while the first test match will start on 14th July 2016 at the Lords cricket ground. Fourth Test match will be begin on 11th August 2016 after that Pakistan will play two one day games against Ireland in Ireland followed by 5 one day matches and a t20 game. PCB selection committee considers Dean Jones as new head coach

Lahore :  Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) coach selection committee is thinking to appoint former Australian retired cricketer Dean Mervyn Jones as new head coach of the team, reported on Thursday.

Pakistan’s early exit from the World T20, which the West Indies won, prompted a wave of criticism, with widespread calls to revamp the country’s domestic structure.

According to sources, news regarding considering name of Dean Jones as head coach is roaming but the nominated candidate has not enough experience for the post as maximum five years of international experience is required to hire a coach.

However, Dean Jones had coached Islamabad United team in Pakistan Super League (PSL) to the victory.

The newly-appointed coach would train the team in upcoming England series in July.

Earlier, former head coach Waqar Younis resigned weeks after team’s humiliating exit from the World Twenty20 tournament at the group stage.

"I am resigning from my post today with a heavy heart," he told reporters in Lahore.

Referring to a report written in the aftermath of the World Twenty20 in India that was widely leaked in the Pakistani press, he added: "I want my recommendations to be implemented. They were not acted on when I first made them in 2015."

In his leaked report, Younis criticised the Pakistan Cricket Board’s decision to not give him a say in the selection process and blasted the captaincy of Shahid Afridi.

"We lost to New Zealand, (the) Asia Cup and the World T20 due to poor captaincy. Over several occasions, I had made it clear that Shahid Afridi was not performing with the bat, ball or as a captain but I was not listened to," he said.

Majid Khan’s name proposed for PCB chairman slot, NA told

Briefing the National Assembly on Pakistan cricket team’s poor performance in the World T20, Federal Minister for Inter-provincial Coordination Riaz Pirzada Friday stated that major changes are expected in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The National Assembly session resumed at 10:30 am with Speaker Ayaz Sadiq in the chair.

Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) Members of National Assembly (MNA) Khalida Mansoor and Surriya Asghar invited the attention of the Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination to a matter of urgent public importance regarding the poor performance of Pakistan Cricket Team during the T-20 World Cup 2016, causing grave concern amongst the public.

Addressing the House, Riaz Pirzada said that Majid Khan’s name has been forwarded to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for PCB chairman’s post.

He said the national cricket team disappointed the nation with their poor performance.

Bowlers did well but batsmen’s performance was disappointing, he added.

He said the players will face consequences if they won’t play according to aspirations of the people.

The minister further told that former coach Waqar Younis in his report revealed that there is no single cricketer in the PCB. All the board members have been appointed through references.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Shaharyar Khan ruled out the possibility of his resignation in the wake of the national team’s debacle in the Asia Cup and World T20 events.

After speculations were rife that Khan, fed up with the leakage of confidential reports from the board and even otherwise, had decided to tender his resignation, he told the media last Friday in Lahore he has no intentions of resigning.

The 82-year-old insisted there was no truth in the media speculations he had decided to resign.

“There is no truth in the rumours that I am considering stepping down,” he added. The PCB chief said he had got the report of the fact-finding committee and would comment on it after going through it.

Pakistan were knocked out of the World T20 after losing three of its four group matches, including a loss to rival India. Khan has also served as PCB Chairman from 2003-2006.

The fact-finding committee was formed to find out the causes for the team’s poor show in recent T20 internationals including the two major events.

After the WT20, Shahid Afridi resigned as T20 captain and head coach Waqar Younis has already stepped down from the post.

The PCB recently appointed Sarfraz Ahmed as new captain of Pakistan T20 team.

We need educated cricketers Najam Sethi

LAHORE: Head of Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Executive Committee Najam Sethi has said that there is need for “educated cricketers” in the country, Speaking in a ceremony here, Sethi said that the youngsters, playing in backyards and alleys, are playing the sport. “We need educated cricketers as well”, he added.
He added that several people, including board officialsm had criticized the Pakistan Super League (PSL) before it even got under way.“The results are in front of you. The first edition of PSL was a success,” he added.The PCB’s executive committee head added that the Pakistan Super League franchises purchase regional teams.Sethi said that the international cricket could not be restored in Pakistan which is unfortunate for the country.
